starting Line I Remember

starting Line I Remember Step Pins ANOTHER MONTH, AND ANOTHER YEAR IN THE BOOKS. Hard to believe we are headed rapidly for 2013 (as of the writing of this article, it’s still 2012 and the Mayans are still liars), but time does fly when you’re having fun. The RC world has changed quite a bit in the past few years, and it has changed even more drastically over the last decade. While pondering the content of this editorial, one phrase that I overheard at my local track kept coming to mind: I remember step pin tires. The person who said this phrase repeated it a second time, almost bragging about the length of his tenure in the hobby, as we recounted the ways RC has changed over the years. Step pins are memorable because these tires dug into the dirt and threw a roost on soft, loamy tracks—you know, the type of track that’s more like a motocross track than an on-road track? Well, as we all know now, both loamy tracks and step pins have gone the way of the dodo bird in favor of small pin tires and hard packed, fast tracks. That’s progress, folks. Thankfully, we have a fresh influx of new trends and products to embrace for every item that disappears. Check out our “Hot for 2013” cover story for further evidence that RC is as exciting and healthy as it has been in many years. New vehicles, new radios, new accessories, and new ways to enjoy the hobby are pouring into the market every month. We at RC Car Action are excited to get our hands on many of the hot new products in 2013, and we look forward to bringing you the reviews and technical articles you crave—whether step pins make a comeback or not.
